Starry Connect Expands in New York City Through a New Partnership with the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)

Broadband is now an essential tool for education, and is right up there with pens, pencils and notebooks on the must have back-to-school supply list. But so many communities are left without affordable home broadband to use for schooling, working, and accessing other important resources from home.

We have expanded our innovative digital equity program, Starry Connect, to serve more residents in New York City - just in time for students returning to school. NYCHA joins the Starry Connect program as our 6th public housing partner to offer our high-speed, uncapped home broadband service (without a credit check or signing a long-term contract) in three communities - Atlantic Terminal, Eugenia de Maria Hostos and 272 Wyckoff Avenue at Wyckoff Gardens - as part of a connectivity pilot program under New York City’s Internet Master Plan for Universal Broadband. Another Starry Connect partner, Microsoft’s Airband Initiative, provided grant funding to help accelerate the construction and deployment into the communities.

NYCHA residents are also eligible to opt-into FCC’s EBB program, which provides up to $50 per month for broadband access to eligible households, and have the entire cost of Starry’s service covered while the program remains in effect.

Our Chief Operating Officer Alex Moulle-Berteaux, NYCHA's EVP for Community Engagement and Partnerships Sideya Sherman, and NYC Chief Technology Officer John Paul Farmer helped us mark the launch of Starry Connect in these communities with our signature “bill cutting.”

The event was followed by a Backpacks & Broadband Back-To-School Giveaway at Atlantic Terminal for NYCHA families with school-aged children to pick up free school supplies needed for the academic year and sign up for Starry service to encourage at-home learning.
